Maribel Caves/ Drumm Memorial Forest

Habitat: Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Bottomland Hardwoods, Cedar Swamp.  

Best Birds: Some birds commonly found in forest areas include Black-throated Green Warbler and Scarlet Tanager.  Check the dense White Cedar patches and limestone cliffs along the river for Winter Wren. Upland shrubs in fragmented forest areas may host Eastern Towhee, Mourning Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler and Chestnut-sided Warbler.  In recent years there has been an active Bald Eagle nest.

Directions: 20 miles SE of Green Bay/about two miles east of Maribel; parking area along Highway 147 to access Drumm Memorial Forest (44.27659, -87.76068). The Drumm Forest can also be accessed from the interconnected Maribel Caves trail system. Maribel Caves access is off County Highway R just north of Highway 147, 44.28377, -87.77707

Site Address & Additional Information:  

Upland forest along the West Twin Rivers, with multiple springs at base of the limestone outcrops at Maribel Caves County Park and areas of Cedar Swamp.  Extensive tornado damage in 2013 fragmented upland forests and created some openings that are now covered with a dense growth of shrubs.
