Best Birds: In the boreal forest section of the road look for Yellow-Bellied Flycatcher, which are known to breed here. In the bottomlands you might find Wilson’s Warbler. In the Alder/Willow Swamp habitat look for Alder Flycatcher Lincoln’s Sparrow, andGolden Winged Warbler.

Near the multiple creek crossings listen for American Bittern, Sedge Wren, and Marsh Wren. Also listen for Red Shouldered Hawk, Veery and other thrushes singing anywhere along Coffee Creek Road. Finally look for Olive Sided Flycatcher sitting atop dead snags that tower over the Alder Swamps.

Directions: 40 Miles North of Wausau and about 6 Miles Southwest of Tomahawk. Take Swamp Rd. south from Cty Hwy O. Continue past Coffee Creek Rd to get to the boreal forest section. After you get back into the hardwoods on Swamp Road, return to Coffee Creek Rd. This is a dead end road which is usually good birding all the way to the end. If you take Saindon Rd to the South off of Coffee Creek there is a little pond that usually holds some waterfowl.
