https://ebird.org/wi/hotspot/L3274636

Habitat: Oak Savanna, Sedge Meadow, Open Water, and Alder/Willow Swamp.

Best birds: Probably the second-best spot in the refuge to observe Whooping Crane is from the observation tower, which is 0.2 miles south of the visitor center. Other wetland species of special interest are Trumpeter Swan, American Bittern, and the occasional Peregrine Falcon during migration.

Around the visitor center, large numbers of Trumpeter Swan and Red-headed Woodpecker are regular. Less common species are Common Loon, Black Tern, Least Bittern, and Purple Martin. A nighttime visit in summer should produce Common Nighthawk and Whip-poor-will

Directions: 65 miles ENE of LaCrosse/6.3 miles from the Necedah city center to the visitor center access road.
