Glacial Drumlin State Trail-Lake Mills to Zeloski Marsh

Habitat: Wetlands, Southern Hardwood Forest, Conifer Bog with Tamarack and Spruce, Open Water.

Best Birds: Rock Lake may hold waterfowl like Greater White-fronted Goose, Northern Shoveler, Canvasback, Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Ring-necked Duck, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Horned Grebe, and Common Loon,.

Representative species found in the forest and bog include Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Barred and Great Horned Owl, Acadian Flycatcher, Tufted Titmouse, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Hermit Thrush, Wood ThrushPine Siskin, and Rusty blackbird (migration), Common  Nighthawk. 

Wetlands along the trail can harbor Sora, Virginia Rail, Wilson’s Snipe, Black Tern, Marsh Wren and Swamp Sparrow.

Directions: 29 miles E of Madison. This is a section of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail. The hotspot section runs between Zeloski Marsh at the west end (43.06165, -88.96849) and the city of Lake Mills in the east (43.06439, -88.91399). The most accessible starting point is at the old train station on Main Street in Lake Mills. From there follow the trail west for 1.5 miles to an another access point from Korth Park. Continue west another 1.4 miles to the west end of this trail segment. Alternatively start from the west end at either Finch Brothers Road (43.06526, -88.95794) or start further west and south at the Zeloski Marsh parking area (43.036886, -88.981912) and then follow the bike trail north about 0.5 mile to reach the west end start point.
