Habitat: The park features eight acres of Restored Oak Savanna, over 60 acres of Native and Restored Grassland, and Open Water.

Best birds: Species found on and around Rock Lake may include Tundra Swan, Greater White-fronted Goose, Snow Goose, Northern Shoveler, Ring-necked Duck, Gadwall, Lesser Scaup, Canvasback, Redhead, American Black Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, and Common Loon.

   In the grasslands you may come across Harris’s Sparrow (migration), White-crowned Sparrow, Eastern Meadowlark, Snow Bunting (winter) and Dickcissel.

   Species found along the edges of the grasslands include Field Sparrow and Clay-colored Sparrow

   The savanna can provide Barred and Great-horned Owl, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Eastern Wood-Pewee, and Scarlet Tanager, .

Directions: 27 miles E of Madison. The park is off County Highway S, on the West side of Lake Mills. A north side entrance is reached at 43.073971, -88.955976. The south side parking lot is reached by an entrance at 43.070368, -88.945728.

The park has three miles of hiking trails. The prairies are excellent locations for studying butterflies and dragonflies as well as birds.
