Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest. 

Best birds: This forest is an excellent example of a White Pine-Red Maple Swamp. It produces excellent numbers of Common Raven, Winter Wren, Blue-headed Vireo, Hermit Thrush, Blackburnian Warbler, Pine Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, and especially Canada Warbler

The uplands north of the road is drier and has produced Yellow-billed cuckoo, Red-headed Woodpecker and Hooded Warbler

A nighttime visit in summer may produce Long-eared Owl and Whip-poor-will

Directions: 65 iles NE of LaCrosse/ 5.8 miles east of Millston city center via County Hwy O and Smrekar Road. Park near the 90-degree turn (44.221556 -90.572966) and walk south into the wet forest or bird from the road for the dry forest species.
