Bear Bluff SNA

Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Conifer Bog, Sedge Meadow. 

Best birds: The wiregrass sedge meadows hold American Bittern, Henslow’s Sparrow (in the drier parts), and LeConte’s Sparrow (in the wetter parts).

The surrounding wet conifer forests are an excellent place to find Blue-headed Vireo, Winter Wren, Hermit Thrush, Golden-winged Warbler, and Canada Warbler

A nighttime visit in summer can produce Northern Saw-whet Owl

Directions: 50 miles SW of Stevens Point/12.4 miles east of Millston city center via County Hwy O and Bear Road.  From this intersection of Bear Road, East Bear Bluff Road and Goodyear Road, the best birding is primarily within ½ mile in any direction. Interior forest birding is possible on the public land (see DNR web for details). Caution: these roads can be soft during winter breakup.
