Saxon Harbor

Habitat: Northern Hardwoods, Open Water, Beach.  

Best Birds: Waterfowl, especially diving ducks, and gulls. There is a Bald Eagle nest just east of the harbor.  Good for migratory songbirds. Newly planted grasses and shrubs in harbor and campground are attractive to sparrows.

Directions: 30 miles E of Ashland. At Saxon go 4 miles N of Hwy 2 on Hwy 122 to Cty A. Left, 1mile to harbor.

Site Address & Additional Information: 

Lake Superior open water and shoreline beach. Exposed clay banks. Northern hardwoods dominate uplands going south from the lake. Beach habitat changes often due to waves and wind. Very nice campground.

This site has largest ebird species list in Iron County.

Iron County Park has $5 daily use permit. You can park on road and hike beach to west.
