Tichora Conservancy

Tichora Conservancy (Camp Grow), Green Lake County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitats: Oak-Hickory Forest, Restored Prairie, Cattail Marsh, and Open Water.

Best birds: Breeding species in the Spring Lake marsh include Least Bittern, Virginia Rail and Marsh Wren.  The forests have Pileated Woodpecker, Yellow-throated Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and Tufted Titmouse.  Migrants on Green Lake can include mergansers, Common Loon, Horned Grebe, and other waterfowl and gulls.

Directions:  53 miles SW of Appleton. From County Road K, turn north onto Oakwood Beach Road and follow it until the road bends east and after paralleling the lakeshore dead ends at the Tichora Conservancy entrance and the parking lot (43.790144, -89.011609).  The main access road and side trails are accessible from there. Spring Lake is southeast of the parking area.

SPECIAL PLACES – Green Lake Conservancy

Formerly a Boy Scout camp and then a church youth camp, this 51-acre property includes shoreline on both Green Lake and Spring Lake.  The camp buildings have been removed, and the site is being restored to a natural state and includes hiking trails.
