Brule River State Forest - Brule Bog

Habitat: Conifer Bog-Cedar Swamp.

Best Birds: Spring-fed swamps of cedar, spruce and alder at the headwaters of the Brule River and St Croix River are home to unique wildlife such as Black-backed Woodpecker, Golden-crowned Kinglet and occasionally Canada Jay.  Birds are best seen while on a leisurely canoe trip down the Brule River from County Road S to County Road P.  

Directions: 33 miles SE of Superior/1.2 miles east of Lake Nebagamon on Cty Hwy B, then south 5.9 miles on Cty Hwy S. At the headwaters of the Bois Brule and St. Croix Rivers there is a board walk into the bog accessed from County Road P. The North Country National Scenic Trail follows the eastern edge of the area and can be accessed at County Road A.
