https://ebird.org/hotspot/L252141

Habitat:  Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Lake Michigan beach, Open Water.

Best Birds: The coniferous and deciduous forest support a variety of woodpeckers including Pileated, Winter Wren, and Eastern Towhee.  Warblers found here include Black-throated Green, Black-and-White, and Pine.  Walk the trails north and south along the rocky shore to observe birds of the open water of Lake Michigan featuring mergansers, Caspian Tern, and occasional Bald Eagle

The Whitefish Dunes State Park which surrounds Cave Point County Park has similar birds.

Directions: 58 miles NE of Green Bay/14 miles northeast of Sturgeon Bay. Take Highway 57 to Clark Lake Road, turn east and go for 4.4 miles to a driveway just past the entrance to Whitefish Dunes State Park, that goes east to a parking lot, (44.930706, -87.173108).

Site Address & Additional Information:

The shallow soil depth limits growth of trees creating a continuous supply of the larger dead and dying trees and a seemingly perpetual young successional forest supporting many woodpeckers. A nice selection of berry producing shrubs throughout the forest supplies birds and wildlife with seasonal foods.
