Sturgeon Bay – Sunset Park

Habitat: Open Water of Sturgeon Bay, Urban/Residential Park.

Best Birds: Sunset Park has a small lake and shoreline on Sturgeon Bay.  It is a good place to see migrating ducks and geese in April and in fall until freeze up in December, but especially divers such as Canvasback, Redhead, Greater and Lesser Scaup, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Common and Red-breasted Merganser and occasionally a Long-tailed Duck. From March to November watch for Caspian Tern, uncommon gulls like Great Black-backed and Glaucous  Gull, Double-crested Cormorant, American White Pelican and Belted Kingfisher

Directions: 45 miles NE of Green Bay/In the City of Sturgeon Bay. From the north side of the bridge in downtown Sturgeon Bay take N. Third Ave./County B to the north for 0.7 miles to the park entrance (just past Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding). 

George Pinney County Park also has good views of the waters of Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay 4.4 miles further north on Bay Shore Drive.
