Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Restored Grassland and Southern Lowland Forest

Best Birds: Waterfowl, herons and egrets, rails and wetland songbirds can be viewed closely on foot on Old Dike Road and by driving to the west end of Ledge Road. 

The grasslands along Point Road are an excellent site for breeding bobolinks, sedge wrens, clay-colored sparrows, Henslow’s Sparrow, Willow Flycatcher, dickcissel and other grassland birds.  

Directions:  66 miles northwest of Milwaukee. Point Road is 0.6 mile south of Hwy 49, via CTH Z.  The east end of Old Marsh Road can be accessed from Point Road, (43.61115, -88.61628).  Hiking this dike/trail provides access into the marsh interior with open water, cattail marsh and mudflats during drawdowns. Point Road loops through upland, primarily planted in grasslands.  The Bud Cooke Hiking Trail can be accessed from Point Road, (43.60302, -88.62115).  Ledge Road extends west of Point Road following Strook’s Ditch leading into the marsh, (43.59693, -88.64397).  Lowland forest and shrubs can be found along Ledge Road which opens to cattail marsh at its west end.
