Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Oak Savannah, Native and Restored Grasslands.
Best Birds: The open water holds a large diversity and numbers of waterfowl during migration such as Lesser Scaup, Canvasback, Redhead, Ruddy Duck, Red-Breasted Merganser, etc. Regular rarities include Red-Necked and Eared Grebe. Gulls and terns in migration include Forster's and Common Tern. The lake also holds large numbers of American White Pelican and Double-Crested Cormorant that often perch on old pier pilings in the southwest corner.
The wooded lot at the south end of the west trail has a great diversity of migrating warblers, vireos, flycatchers and other passerines. The prairie to the west of the west path holds typical sparrows and Eastern Meadowlark.
Directions: 20 miles northeast of Madison. Exit Highway 151 on Hwy-N/Bristol Street and take the frontage road to the parking area (43.203612, -89.186252).
