Habitat:  Mississippi River Bottomland Hardwoods and Open Water.

  

Best Birds:  At the parking lot watch for waterfowl in the open water to the north.  Along the Sturgeon Slough Trail, accessed from the parking lot, look for woodpeckers, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Brown Creeper, Louisiana Waterthrush, and Prothonotary Warbler.  From the elevated old U.S. Highway 18 berm look for waterfowl, herons, and warblers.  

Directions:  59 miles S of La Crosse, One mile west of Prairie du Chien on U.S. Highway 18.  Parking lot is at the wayside on the north side of the highway.
