Habitat: Bottomland Hardwoods, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Native and Restored Grassland, Marsh, Open Water.
Best Birds: This reserve features Lake Wissota to the east and the Chippewa River on the south. In spring migration look for Tundra Swan, Ring-necked Duck, Green-winged Teal, Ruddy Duck, Northern Shoveler, Redhead, Common Goldeneye, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser, Bufflehead, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Fox Sparrow, Golden-winged and other warblers, Bobolink, and Orchard Oriole. Cooper’s Hawk, Osprey, Bald Eagle, and Merlin breed in the area.
Directions: 15 miles NE of Eau Claire/3 miles east of Chippewa Falls. There are three entrances to the trail system with parking. One is on Beach Drive (44.95155, -91.34849) about 0.2 mile east of the stop light at the top of the hill on Seymour Cray Blvd. The second is on the east side of Seymour Cray Blvd just north of the Chippewa River bridge, 44.94485, -91.35409. The third is a small parking lot on 74th Ave. (44.94989, -91.34461) next to the Rod & Gun Club property. Pass through the opening next to the Xcel Energy gate to continue to the waterfront. (The Rod & Gun Club is open only to members. Do not park on their property.)
