Brillion State Wildlife Area

Habitat: 4800 acres of Marsh, Native and Restored Grassland, Southern Hardwood Forest, Bottomland Hardwoods, Open Water, and Cropland.  

Best Birds: The prairie areas along Conservation Road and Bastian Road hold Willow Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Bobolink, Eastern Meadowlark, and Dickcissel.  An impoundment is accessible along a rough “trail” from the SE parking lot heading south. The impoundment holds Trumpeter Swan, Black Tern, American White Pelican, American Bittern, Black-crowned Night Heron, Marsh Wren, and Swamp Sparrow.  Depending on water levels, this area can be outstanding for spring waterfowl and fall shorebirds. 

Directions: 15 miles SE of Appleton. There are 3 parking lots on the south side of Conservation Road giving access to prairie and marshland.  Best access to the impoundment is from the southeast parking lot (44.168444, -88.114561).  The end of Bastian Road also provides access to prairie (44.170206, -88.104621).
