Norway Point Bottomlands SNA – St. Croix National Scenic Riverway

Habitat:  Bottomland Hardwoods and Cedar Swamp

Best Birds:  Birds of the Cedar Swamp include Red-shouldered Hawk, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Winter Wren, Purple Finch, White-throated Sparrow, Northern and Louisiana Waterthrush, Canada and Nashville Warbler. Bottomland forest species include Warbling Vireo, Louisiana Waterthrush (where water from the “seeps” along the top of the escarpment flows into the river), Golden-winged, Black and White, and Nashville Warbler, and Yellow-throated. 

Directions: 73 miles SW of Superior. Twelve miles north from Grantsburg on County Road F to Norway Point Landing Road. The Governor Knowles State Forest hiking trial runs through the parking lot, 45.923866, -92.640081.  Take the trail upstream to visit the SNA cedar swamp and downstream for the bottomlands of the state forest.
