Roche-a-Cri State Park

Habitat: Mixed Coniferous Forest, Open Water, Native and Restored Grassland.

Best Birds: Turkey Vulture, Bald Eagle soar over the bluff.  Barred Owl, Common Raven, Yellow-throated and Blue-headed Vireo, Veery, Hermit and Wood Thrush, Scarlet Tanager habit the mixed forest.  In savannah areas Red Headed Woodpecker and Nashville Warbler are present. The prairie holds Field Sparrow

Directions: The main entrance is 50 miles SSW of Stevens Point/1.5 miles north of Friendship on State Highway 13. During winter, the main entrance is closed and a parking lot access is located on the north side of Czech Avenue. There are well maintained and signed trails throughout the property.

This 605-acre park is covered by extensive, old growth pine-oak forest, and also floodplain forest along Carter Creek which meanders through the area.  There is mainly White Pine, with a bit of Jack and Red Pine scattered throughout, plus several oak species. There is an open prairie at the south end of the park along Czech Avenue including some native forbs and flowering plants. The site is dominated by a 300-foot-high rock outcropping.
