Amey Pond: https://ebird.org/wi/hotspot/L2187039

Habitat: Open Water and Shoreline.

Best Birds: At both locations one can see Green Heron, Bald Eagle, and Purple Martin as well as a variety of waterfowl.  Check the trees south of the parking area at Mason Lake boat ramp for Red Headed Woodpecker, Warbling and Yellow-throated Vireo.  On the water are White Pelican, Common Loon and Hooded, Common & Red-breasted Merganser.  The waterway connection between the two lakes contains perches for Belted Kingfisher, gull, tern, and swallow species.

Directions: 50 miles N of madison/2 miles west of Briggsville. For Mason Lake use the southern boat ramp located just north of Hwy 23 on Grouse Court across from the Wagon Wheel Campground.

Amey Pond is on the south side of Hwy 23, lacks a formal boat ramp or other direct access. The best viewpoint is to carefully stop along the shoulder of either of two roads: from the north side on a fairly busy Hwy 23 or from a less hectic Hwy XX to the west side of the pond.

Site Address & Additional Information:

Lake Mason is an 882-acre lake located primarily in southern Adams County (eastern 1/3 is in Marquette County). It has a maximum depth of 9 feet. Just to the south is Amey Pond, like a Prairie Pothole in its shape, depth, size, and relatively treeless borders.

There is some parking and a small grassy area west of the boat ramp from which one can view the lake.
