Castle Rock Dam

Habitat: Open Water, Non-native Grassland and Pasture, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Pine Plantation.

Best Birds: A good assortment of diving ducks, Common Loon, gulls, Bald Eagle, Belted Kingfisher and swallows.  Adjacent wooded areas hold Pine Warbler.    

Directions: 77 miles NW of Madison/13 miles SW of Adams Friendship. From County Hwy Z take Edgewood Drive west 1 mile to the dam. 

Site Address & Additional Information:

The Wisconsin River runs below the dam and Castle Rock Lake lies above the dam. The downstream area includes a boat ramp and grassy picnic area near a spillway. An observation deck accessed by a stairway or alternatively by a gravel trail east of the stairs leads to great views of the lake and surrounding area. A grassy walking trail is located on top of the embankment. Red Pine line the road leading to the dam.
