The Driftless Area is the most rugged, biologically diverse landscape in the upper Midwest. The region’s major river systems support wetlands considered internationally significant, while the uplands harbor globally and continentally important Conservation Opportunity Areas, including thirteen Important Bird Areas (IBAs). This largely forested landscape provides essential habitat for many species considered Wisconsin conservation priorities including Cerulean Warbler, Acadian Flycatcher and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.
The presentation will emphasize the importance of the Driftless Areas for birds and highlight efforts underway to protect and manage the region’s remarkable natural resources.
