Join Our Team - for the love of birds
The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology seeks an administrative assistant to join the organization’s staff to assist with communications, publication distribution, membership, and business transactions. The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology is a nonprofit organization whose mission is promoting the enjoyment, study, and conservation of Wisconsin’s birds. The organization is increasing staff responsibility for publications and communications as well as regular administration of membership and fundraising.
The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology produces the Passenger Pigeon journal, that provides ornithology research, seasonal birding reports, and other articles of interest to ornithologists, conservationists, and birders. The Organization also produces a monthly membership newsletter, The Badger Birder.
This is a part-time position for up to 20 hours a week. The salary for this position is $25 an hour. This is a remote position with work from home, but it includes some travel.
The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology has had a leading role in birding and bird conservation in Wisconsin since 1939. We want to engage a wider community in birding and conservation issues with directed strategic communication and compelling messages. Become a part of our team working to improve bird knowledge, habitat, and funding with other collaborators statewide.
The responsibilities for this position include:
● Write, edit, and distribute a broad range of communications materials
● Coordinate volunteers assisting with publications and other activities
● Manage publication printing and distribution in print and electronically
● Review and revise website content
● Manage digital content on the WSO website and social media
● Participate in fundraising campaign
● Process membership dues, donations, and reports
● Database management and report gathering
Skills and experience needed:
● Good organizational skills and attention to detail
● Professional writing ability
● Strong communication skills
● Ability to manage multiple projects
● Social media content and management experience
● Website content and management experience
● Experience in Microsoft Office and Google documents, including spreadsheet creation and analysis
● Experience in Wild Apricot is a plus
● Experience in Canva is a plus
