WSO Executive Director
Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our membership, we have met our goal of raising $150,000 to expand the society’s operations and programs. A generous lead gift from Dr. Adel B Korkor kicked off the appeal, which accomplished the targeted goal.
Members of WSO’s Board of Directors contributed nearly one-third of the amount. The rest came from an inspiring combination of longtime members who have already done so much for WSO (such as Bettie Harriman, Levi Wood and Kate Redmond) and newer members who have demonstrated great enthusiasm for the organization’s ramped-up efforts. Together we are moving toward a future that benefits both birds and birding enthusiasts.
Over 200 members contributed to the appeal in amounts ranging from $10 to more than $20,000 either in direct gifts or donations included with membership renewals. While $100 gifts were the most popular amount, every donation contributed to the success of the Flight Forward appeal to help WSO do more for Wisconsin’s birds.
We are grateful not only for the financial support but also for the supportive comments we received. Donors expressed their appreciation and confidence in the direction the conservation organization is moving. As James Johnson commented in the note that accompanied his generous gift: “It looks like a great campaign that is long overdue.” We especially appreciated his charming drawing of a bird lining our “nest” with money.
The board and staff wish to thank the volunteers who served on the fundraising committee and to our past presidents for endorsing and contributing to the appeal. Most of all, we offer our sincerest gratitude to the members of WSO for supporting this effort. Time is of the essence in the fight to defend birds. Expanding our outreach, influence and programs will allow us to meet the challenge.
