Poygan State Wildlife Area

Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Bottomland Hardwoods. 

Best Birds: American White Pelican, Great Egret, and Least Bittern are found in the marsh. In the woods, look for American Woodcock, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Barred and Great Horned Owl; Wood Thrush, Northern Waterthrush, Black and White; Blue-winged; Chestnut-sided Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager.

Directions: Approximately 23 miles west of Oshkosh. From Highway 49 in Poy Sippi access to the marsh to the east is obtained by three roads. These roads all have parking at the ends. Go east on County H to Beechnut Road (44.126897, -88.930955), From Hwy 49 go to Big Horn Drive (44.119583, -88.935872) and from County D take Black Hawk Avenue (44.112412, -88.931844).

Site Address and Additional Information: 

This 3300-acre area is at the western end of Lake Poygan. The Pine River and Willow Creek run through the area. The many dikes lend themselves to hiking through the marsh.
