Meadow Lake, Washburn County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Open Water, Marsh, Northern Hardwood Forest, Willow/Alder Swamp, Cropland.
Best Birds: In late winter, look for eagles using the Osprey platform on the north side as an observation perch. The Osprey usually return in April and often have a chick or two visible throughout the summer. Turkey Vulture, Broad-winged Hawk, and Red-tailed Hawk can be seen here as well, and Northern Harrier or a Kestrel may be present closer to the pasture area.
Diving ducks such as Ring-necked, Bufflehead, Goldeneye, and Hooded Merganser and Common Loon are frequent visitors to the open water on the north side of the property.
Various warblers can be seen in the shrub/alder thicket to the south.
Directions: 74 miles N of Eau Claire/9.5 miles N of Rice Lake on US-53 N. This roadside location is ½ mile east of County Hwy P on Audubon Road at 45.717579, -91.768362. Meadow Lake is to the north of Audubon Road. This is roadside birding only. Do not trespass on these private lands. This town road is winding and there’s not a lot of shoulder area. Use caution and watch for cars.
