Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary, Washburn County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Open Water, Northern Hardwood Forest, Conifer Bog, Native and Restored Grassland, Marsh.
Best Birds: The Vole Trail, which begins in the lower parking lot of the main camp, follows the edge of hardwood forest, open water and restored grassland habitats, providing great viewing opportunities for Broad-winged Hawk, Eastern Bluebird, sparrows, and warblers, including Golden-winged. Check for ducks, kingfisher, Common Loon, herons, Bald Eagle and Osprey on the lakes.
From the main campus, visitors may observe Wild Turkey, and a variety of woodpeckers, including Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-bellied, and Red-headed in addition to resident songbirds. A walk on the Red Oak trail brings visitors into hardwood forest with some lingering large White Pine where Pileated Woodpecker, and Barred and Great Horned Owl can be found.
Directions: 76 miles N of Eau Claire/9.5 miles N of Rice Lake. The sanctuary is located on Hunt Hill Road north of Audubon Road (45.721074, -91.735514)
