Beaver Brook Wildlife Area

Beaver Brook SWA, Washburn, US-WI 

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Successional Oldfield, Open Water.

Best Birds: The small lakes, trout stream and spring ponds all attract waterfowl, as well as being good places to observe kinglets and Cedar Waxwing in the riparian areas. Hike the many trails through the northern hardwoods to find Broad-winged Hawk, thrushes, vireos, and warblers. In the early successional areas you may find Ruffed Grouse. Woodpeckers and Scarlet Tanager can be found in the oak stands. Check the successional habitat for American Woodcock and the buzz of the Clay-colored Sparrow.

Directions: 74 miles S of Superior/on the southeast side of Spooner.  The Wild Rivers State Trail borders the entire west side of the area for which there are multiple good points of access including, a parking lot on Wildlife Road off Highway 253 (45.800834, -91.869599), another on Cranberry Road off Highway 53 (45.778838, -91.846751) and there is a pull-off where Beaver Brook crosses Highway B (45.753278, -91.827669) that is just east of the trail.

The interior of the area can be accessed at the south end of Randall Lake Road in Spooner (45.804909, -91.882658) and via Wildlife Road at 45.800834, -91.869599.
