Van Vliet Hemlocks SNA

Habitat:  Hemlock-hardwood Forest, Conifer Bog, Open Water.

Best Birds: Several looped trails traverse across a gently rolling topography consisting of mature forest habitat and exceptional large diameter yellow birch, maple and pine.   The tall canopy and well developed understory provide an opportunity to view Barred Owl, Yellow-throated Vireo, Blue-headed Vireo, Winter Wren, Brown Creeper, both species of kinglet, Palm Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager,. 

Directions: 42 miles SE of ironwood, MI/14 miles northwest of Boulder Junction.  From the intersection of County B and Crab Lake Road in Presque Isle, go south on Crab Lake Road 3.7 miles, then west on East Van Vliet Road 0.9 miles to a parking lot and trailhead extending to the north at the end of E. Van Vliet Road.
