Lower Ninemile Lake

Habitat:  Open Water, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Marsh.

Best Birds: The open water should be checked for Trumpeter Swan, a variety of ducks including RedheadCommon Goldeneye, and scaup, grebes, rails, and Common Loon.      

Multiple old and new Bald Eagle nests are visible in the super canopy pines along the far shoreline.  Abundant wetland shrub habitat yields Sandhill Crane, Wilson’s Snipe, and both species of bittern. 

Directions: 63 miles W or Iron Mountain, MI/10 miles east of Eagle River. The landing is on Nine Mile Road at 45.90531, -89.089468

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Boat Access to Lower Ninemile Lake provides clear views of the marsh and open water.
