Navarino State Wildlife Area, McDonald Flowage

Habitat: Sedge Meadow, Alder Swamp, Hardwood Swamp, Open Water.

Best Birds: On the north end of the flowage look for Trumpeter Swan, Ring-necked Duck, Sora and Virginia Rail, American Woodcock, Black Tern, Least Bittern, Great Egret, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Alder Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Veery, and Golden-winged Warbler

At the south end there is a better chance of seeing both Alder and Willow Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Marsh Wren, Nashville Warbler, and Scarlet Tanager. In late Summer and early Fall, the water level usually goes down and this south area becomes attractive to many shorebirds including Semipalmated Plover, Solitary, Semipalmated, and Pectoral Sandpiper, and Wilson's Snipe

Directions: 33 miles NW of Green Bay/11 miles east of Clintonville. Head north about 2.5 miles on McDonald Road from the intersection with Hwy 156. There is little traffic on this road so park on the shoulder here (44.66305, -88.54388). The South end is best viewed about 2 miles north of Hwy 156 where there is a parking spot on the east side of the road, (44.65444, -88.54430). In between these locations there is another parking spot with a short trail leading east through a small woods into the flowage (44.65818, -88.54407).
