Navarino State Wildlife Area, Ganshaw Fields

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Hardwood Swamp, Willow Swamp, Successional Oldfield. 

Best Birds: Sandhill Crane, Northern Harrier, Alder, and Willow Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, Golden-winged, Nashville, Mourning and Canada Warbler, Eastern Towhee, Field, Clay-colored, LeConte's, Grasshopper and Henslow's Sparrow. A walk through the fields early in the morning will yield the best results. 

Directions: 32 miles NW of Green Bay/11 miles east of Clintonville. From Hwy 156 go north on McDonald Road about 2 miles to a small parking area on the east side of the road (44.65444, -88.54430). Walk past a gate for 1.3 miles east to the site. Pike's Peak Flowage is to the south for the first mile of the walk and a trail to the south across Pike's Peak Flowage is at the 0.9 mile point. Continue past this point for about another 0.4 mile to the fields (44.65361, -88.52416).

Site Address & Additional Information: 

There are 3 old field areas: two to the north and south are mostly grassy; one to the east, to the railroad tracks, is a mixture of grass, sweet fern and lupines.

Wear rubber boots as the grass will likely be wet and most likely, there will be ticks. Mosquitoes will also likely be present.
