Caroline - Legion Park and Town Hall Park

Habitat: Hemlock Hardwood Forest, Alder Swamp, Open Water, Mudflats.

Best Birds: Around the Legion Park, breeding birds include Common and Hooded Merganser, Osprey, Bald Eagle, Northern Saw-whet Owl, and Alder Flycatcher. When the water is low enough, there is exposed mudflat attracting shorebirds during migration. Downstream at the Grant Town Hall there is a small park next to the Embarrass River. Eastern Screech-Owl is sometimes seen in the Wood Duck houses. In Winter, Evening Grosbeak, Common Redpoll and Pine Siskin are seen at feeders in the area. Bohemian Waxwing and Pine Grosbeak may feed on the Crabapple trees near the town hall. 

Directions: 59 miles NW of Green Bay/18 miles west of Shawano. Take County G or M to Caroline. The Legion Park is on the west side of this small town on the north side of Hwy M. At Legion Park there is a gravel road down to the boat landing in the park (44.72388, -88.89888).  Downstream about 3/4 mile on the east side of Caroline is the Grant Town Hall where there is a small park next to the Embarrass River (44.72388, -88.89888).
