Habitat: Bottomland Hardwoods, Native and Restored Grassland.
Best Birds: Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-headed Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Northern Shrike (winter), Veery, Prothonotary Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, and Bobolink. Due to excellent habitat and an abundance of artificial nest boxes, this site has an extraordinary number of Prothonotary Warbler.
Directions: 13 miles west of Beloit on Nelson Road. Excellent birding is available along the entire 1.5 mile stretch from north edge of Bottomland Hardwoods to the drainage canal in grassland south of Sugar River. Parking is available at the canoe landing at 42.518481, -89.305910.
