Woodboro Lakes SWA, Oneida County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Young Conifers, Open Water. 

Best Birds: Woodboro Lakes is managed for Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock. In the more mature forests to the north of Oscar Jenny Lake Road there are Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Hermit Thrush, White-throated Sparrow, Canada, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Black-and-White and Blackburnian Warbler.  South of Oscar Jenny Lake Road is an area recently logged that supports Alder Flycatcher, Golden-winged, Chestnut-sided and Nashville Warbler

Directions: 70 miles northwest of Wausau. Ten miles west of Rhinelander. There is access to the north side from County Road K with parking at 45.64426, -89.67074.  Parking is also available in the south central area at two locations on Oscar Jenny Lake Road at 45.61552, -89.65154 and a tenth east at 45.61512, -89.64914.  An extensive logging road network runs through the property that can be walked, but vehicle access is limited to those with high clearance and four-wheel drive. Roads are gated so access may be blocked at times to serve land management needs.

Address and Additional Information:

There are about 3,000 acres with a variety of upland forests with six small lakes. The forests are managed by selective logging and in varying stages of regrowth; mostly aspen and White Birch with areas of Red Oak, Red Maple and White Pine.
