Spur Lake SNA, Oneida County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot
Habitat: Open Water, Alder Swamp, Marsh, Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Conifer Bog.
Best Birds: There are excellent views from the road of the shallow lake that has extensive beds of water-lily, wild rice and other aquatic plants attracting migratory waterfowl. In summer there are Trumpeter Swan, Ring-necked Duck, Black Tern,Common Loon, and Osprey. The surrounding marsh has breeding Alder Flycatcher, Sedge Wren, and Swamp Sparrow.
Walking the lightly traveled road through the swamp and forested areas should yield Blue-headed Vireo, Cedar Waxwing, Purple Finch, Black and White, Chestnut-sided, Golden-winged, , Black-throated Green and Canada Warbler, and Northern Parula. Stella Lake Road east and west of Spur Lake is equally productive for songbirds.
Directions: 75 miles northwest of Wausau. Six miles southwest of Three Lakes on East Stella Lake Road. There is a parking area on the east side of the road at 45.718189, -89.152987.
