Pensaukee State Wildlife Area

Habitat: Marsh, Sedge Meadow, Willow, Alder or Dogwood Swamp, Hardwood Swamp.

Best birds: Migrant waves including warblers, vireos, and flycatchers can be found along edges of forest. Several of these species stay to breed in the mixed forest and hardwood forest. The shrub-carr habitat hosts good numbers of Alder Flycatcher and Willow Flycatcher, as well as occasional Golden-winged Warbler and Blue-winged Warbler. Sedge meadow and cattail marsh offer chances to find ducks, bitterns, rails, and Wilson’s Snipe

Directions: 28 miles N of Green Bay. From the town of Pensaukee, take County Road S to the south. The State Wildlife Area is best accessed from here, where traffic is light in the early morning.  Multiple small parking areas offer good stopping points (44.80848, -87.91795).
