https://ebird.org/hotspot/L230540

Habitat: Open Water, Beaches and Mudflats.

Best Birds:  An expansive stretch of open water along Lake Michigan with McKinley and Bradford Beaches provides good shorebird habitat. This is also a great spot for rafts of diving ducks from October through May. All 3 scoters are seen regularly along with other more rare diving ducks, loons and grebes. The beaches are good for shorebirds in spring and fall migration.  Search early in the morning before the crowds build. Piping Plover has been recorded quite regularly on the beach as well as on the concrete breakwall south of here at McKinley Marina.  McKinley Marina is a great spot to scope for gulls and Snowy Owl.   Veterans Park Lagoon just south of here is good for migrating passerines and has nesting Warbling VireoSnow Bunting are seen regularly along this stretch in migration and into early winter.  Some years the wintering Canada Goose flock will hold other unusual species.
