Legend Lake Spillway

https://ebird.org/hotspot/L16280661

Habitat: Open Water, Marsh.

Best Birds: This location offers an expansive view of Legend Lake to the west. To the east is an 11 acre marsh. Legend Lake attracts a variety of migrating swans, geese, ducks, grebes (including Red-necked) and Common Loon. This is a good place to look for swallows, Belted Kingfisher and possibly a Marsh Wren or Swamp Sparrow in the small wetland.

Directions: 45 miles northwest of Green Bay. From Keshena use County Road VV to travel about 6 miles east. Turn north on Long Lake Road and in 0.2 miles arrive at the spillway. Park on the shoulder of the road.

The Town of Menominee has 8 conservancies in the Legend Lake area that are public lands meant for wildlife and natural habitat preservation. The Legend Lake Spillway Conservancy is a small but unique parcel. Unlike most of the county, you can leave the road and bird the property on foot although it is mostly wetland and not navigable.
