Bluegill Bay County Park

Habitat: Hemlock-Hardwood Forest, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, Open Water, Alder Swamp, Pine Plantation.

Best Birds: Walking trails will lead to all habitats in the park where herons, Pileated Woodpecker, flycatchers, thrushes, warblers, and more can be found in the proper season. In summer look for Green Heron around the large pond, as well as Osprey that hunt the pond. Look for migrant waterfowl, grebes, loons, gulls, and terns along the Wisconsin River/Lake Wausau.

Directions: Located just outside Wausau in the Town of Rib Mountain, along the Wisconsin River. Take Cloverland Lane to the east off of Rib Mountain Drive to Bluegill Ave, turn left to enter the park (south parking lot)..

Wood Ticks are usually not a problem, but mosquitoes will be.
