Lokemoen Landing

eBird Hotspot Link: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L8991545

Habitat: Open Water, Pine Plantation.

Best Birds: In the spring look to the south of the landing area, where Wild Rice patches near the islands may hold Tundra Swan, Ring Necked Duck, Canvasback, Redhead, Double-Crested Cormorant, Bufflehead, and a variety of other waterfowl.

Directions: 25 Miles North of Wausau/ about 6 Miles out of Merrill. Head North of Merrill on 107, take Lokemoen Rd. to the West to the dead end at the boat launch area. Just to the Southeast of the Lokemoen Landing there is a strip of Public Service Land that is a Pine Plantation. You can park in the driveway on the East end of the property and walk the trail to the lakeshore. This is a great spot to view the divers that gather between the two islands in the spring.

This is only a good spot for waterfowl in the spring just as the river is opening up enough but when there is enough ice that the boats can’t launch.
