Bogus Swamp SNA

Bogus Swamp, Langlade County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitats: Conifer Bog, Sedge Meadow, Open Water.

Best Birds: This Important Bird Area is one of the southern-most locations to find breeding Palm Warbler and Lincoln's Sparrow. Also found in this under-birded area are American Bittern, Northern Harrier, Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Hermit Thrush, White-throated Sparrow, Canada and Cape May Warbler and Purple Finch.

Directions: 47 miles NE of Wausau. From the intersection of Hwy 45 and Forest Road in the town of Summit Lake, go southwest on Forest Road 4 miles to the western boundary of the natural area, (45.33345, -89.22993). Park along the road and either bird from the roadside or bushwhack/walk east into the wetland. Continue on Forest Road along the fringe of the swamp to the southwest corner where a dirt road continues east (45.32569, -89.23406) tracing the border of the natural area for about a mile. Walk and bird along this road. Alternatively travel Bogus Road and Snag Road along the southeast edge of the area, (45.32431, -89.20576).
