Habitat: Open Water, Pine Plantation, and Northern Hardwood Forest.
Best Birds: Walking the road along the top of the dam offers views downstream into Mud Creek where you can find Belted Kingfisher. Upstream of the dam is a great place to look for various diving ducks such as mergansers, Common Goldeneye, and Bufflehead.
The edge of the parking area is at the interface of a pine plantation and northern-hardwood forest, and productive for warblers like Chestnut-sided, and Blackburnian. The shoreline vegetation near the fishing pier is suitable for Mourning Warbler.
The viewing locations listed below offer vantage points of the lake to look for grebes, ducks, and Common Loon with Pratt Road being a great spot for Swamp Sparrow. Bald Eagle and Osprey can be found throughout the area.
Directions: 58 miles NE of Wausau/27.5 miles northeast of Antigo off County Road K. The main access point is a park located at the dam on the east side of Clear Lake Road (45.43745, -89.08476). Additional access points for the lake are the Upper Post Public Boat Landing: (45.44498, -89.08162) and West Shore Drive Boat Launch: (45.45605, -89.08948). On Pratt Road there is a popular fishing spot that provides views of the lake. One can pull off the shoulder of the road but do not follow the dirt road into the woods as this is private property: (45.46379, -89.10030).
