Hunner Preserve

Hunner Preserve, Kewaunee County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Cedar Swamp, Southern Hardwood Forest, Pine Plantation, Open Water.

Best Birds:  Many of the typical birds of the southern hardwood forest can be found here including Barred Owl, Pileated Woodpecker, Great-crested Flycatcher, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Wood Thrush, Hooded Warbler, Pine Warbler, and Black-throated Green Warbler.

Directions: 29 miles SE of Green Bay/6 miles north of Mishicot on Hwy BB ½ mile east of Hwy B. The forty acre Hunner Preserve is on the north side of BB. The trail starts just east of the Hwy BB bridge crossing Tisch Mills Creek. Foot bridges cross pristine Tisch Mills Creek with a boardwalk through wet areas. The Ice Age trail access is across the road from Hunner Preserve.

Hunner Preserve contains a run of Tisch Mills Creek surrounded by native swamp conifer and hardwoods forest with springs flowing into the creek. A large section of the preserve are white pine, red pine, and white cedar plantations.  The property contains some beautiful American Beech, White Oak (200 years old), Red Maple (150 years old), White and Yellow Birch, Giant Hemlock and White Pine.
