Habitat: Open Water and Mudflats.
Best birds: Close to the Kenosha County landfill, this location is an area of the Des PlainesRiver which is often flooded and is visible from the road. Check the flooded area of the river on the south side of the road for migrant geese, ducks, gulls, shorebirds, and Bald Eagle. Winter gulls may include Glaucous, Iceland, and Lesser and Great Black-backed.
Check the water for spring migrant ducks, Greater White-fronted Goose and Snow Goose, and shorebirds, including Pectoral and White-rumped Sandpiper, and American Golden Plover. Laughing and Franklin’s Gull are occasionally seen during migration. Water levels diminish during summer.
