Assembly Creek and Springs Conservancy (Hammer’s Trail)

Hammer's Trail, Green Lake County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Oak-Hickory Forest, Successional Oldfield, with Open Water on Norwegian Bay.

Best birds:  The open springs and streams often attract good numbers of American Robin through the winter, when Winter Wren, Eastern Bluebird, and Hermit Thrush can also be found at times.  Due to its location on the shore of Green Lake, this can be a good site during migration periods – both for observing waterfowl on Norwegian Bay, and for migrant passerines. Breeding species include Pileated Woodpecker and Tufted Titmouse.

Directions: 51 miles SW of Madison. Located within the Green Lake Conference Center, one needs to drive through the main entrance off Highway 23 on Lawson Drive (43.836900, -89.012237), and then bird the various roads on the resort grounds.  Visitors can park along the gravel spur off Log Cabin Road (43.816879, -89.033934), and look for the trailhead sign.  Connected trails also lead through the adjacent Green Lake School Forest, which is located just to the east.
