Habitat: Open Water.
Best birds: Primarily of interest as a stopover for migratory waterfowl, resident species include Osprey, Bald Eagle, Northern-rough Winged Swallow, and Tufted Titmouse.
Directions: Within city of Eau Claire. High vantage points for viewing in Mt Simon Park (44.828843, -91.500288), McDonough Park (44.823161, -91.491293), and a small green space on Ruby Lane (44.833662, -91.485958). Boat landings downstream at Mt Simon Park (44.832602, -91.502356) and upstream at Riverview Park (44.846011, -91.500284).
Site Address & Additional Information:
Open Water on the Chippewa River above the dam in downtown Eau Claire. Half a dozen narrow wooded islands of approximately 1/4 mile in length create areas of lower flow. Maximum depth 30 feet. Rimmed by steep tall banks, except to the north.
