Fox River Mouth

Fox River mouth (Green Bay), Brown County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Open Water.

Best Birds: The Fox River mouth is always worth a check in spring or fall, as it typically yields scope views of diving ducks and mergansers. Sometimes gull flocks stage here, especially if baitfish congregate and the site has a knack for turning up Black-legged Kittiwake or Little Gull in late fall if a lot of Bonaparte’s Gull are present. Bald Eagle is seen in large numbers in winter, and there are usually some around all year. The decommissioning of the Pulliam Plant has resulted in ice in the winter, except during thaws when the area should be checked. However, aerators in the South Bay Marina keep some small areas ice-free, and usually some species of diving and dabbling ducks. One can view the distant throngs of American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, and other common Bay waterbirds from the north end of the Marina.

Directions: Exit Interstate 43 at the Webster Avenue exit and proceed north on Irvin Avenue and it becomes Bay Beach Road. Follow Bay Beach Road to the west to where it ends at the South Bay Marina and Metro Boat Launch.
