Mikana Area County Forest

Mikana Area County Forest, Barron County, WI, US - eBird Hotspot

Habitat: Northern Hardwoods Forest, Mixed Coniferous Forest, Willow, Alder or Dogwood Swamp.

Best Birds: This site provides access to unique habitat which is rarely found in the county. During migration look for the usual mix of migrating warblers, thrushes, and sparrows. If visiting in the summer, birders will likely encounter breeding birds such as Purple Finch, White-throated Sparrow, Golden-winged Warbler, Mourning Warbler, and Chestnut-sided Warbler

 Due to the site's position in the northern part of the county, winter visits have the potential to produce Ruffed Grouse, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Northern Shrike, and Common Redpoll

Directions: 69 miles N of Eau Claire/12 northeast of Rice Lake. The forest lands start ½ mile west of Hwy 48 on Main Street/Swamp Road in the small town of Mikana. There are multiple trailheads from Swamp Road/26th St. beginning in the east at 45.58394, -91.62107, and 45.58087, -91.62633 and further west at 45.58188, -91.63656.
