Habitat: Northern Hardwood Forest, Sedge Meadow.
Best Birds: Birding along the roadsides can prove to be interesting during all seasons. In the spring and summer, check the sedge habitat for species such as Virginia Rail, Sandhill Crane, Wilson’s Snipe, and LeConte’s Sparrow. Because the site is located along the shore of Bear Lake, Common Loon are often heard vocalizing. During this same season, check the wooded areas for vireos, nuthatches, and warblers. While fewer species are present during the winter, it can still be worth a visit as species such as Short-eared Owl and Rough-legged Hawk can be found here.
